Helping strangers with directions. It doesn't seem as difficult or time-consuming as I initially thought it would be. Just 3 seconds of advice while I boarded my bus today.

If someone gives you an initial bad impression, don't back away. Try to accept that person and even like him/her. Who knows, you may find out attributes you admire that you have been finding for a long time.
