I was searching how to go to the shopping mall beside Westgate. I thought it was Jcube then I saw it across the road. As I was suspecting there's no such Shopping Centre, an auntie approached me for directions to Jcube. I was apprehensive as I was also looking for directions. But since I had already spotted it across the road, I could help her, and coincidentally found JEM right beside.

Shows it pays to help strangers, instead of just waving her away.

Met a considerate lady who asked me if I had little documents to print at the printing shop I visit. As she would printing many documents, she allowed me to go first to print my single-page document.

My maintenance worker wrote on his hand.

So I gave him a memo pad.

When he left, I gave him a Milo packet.

It's not easy being a service staff. Compared to requiring them to always service with a smile leading to "surface acting", why not bring a smile to their faces?

Allowed a nurse to cut my queue (there is no one behind me) while I was waiting to buy my food. Why should they not be shown kindness when they give kindness every minute while they work?

Really happy I finally proactively did something kind that is not common. This person on the bus next to me was going for an interview, judging by his belongings. This being my first time, I drew a good luck card in case my nerves mess up my words. When I gave it to him, the best part was I ended up smiling so much for the next few minutes. Come join me in doing this!

Am quite sad to find that young adults seem to have a lack of trust in others.

In a school environment, I offered someone help today. Said person was looking for some things with a group of friends. Since I knew where to find the item, I took it and handed it to them. One person said to the other "Hey, (is this) your friend arh?" (sic)

I was rather shocked that my offer was help was rejected in such a rude way. Is this the reason why Singapore finds it so difficult to be a gracious society? Because some have the innate thought that if someone helps you, there would be an ulterior motive? I don't understand why one cannot help another with a pure heart.

Shared my umbrella with a stranger who initially hid under a tree from the rain. Because of this contact, we had some small talk. I think this should be the way - a kampung spirit of caring for each other as she asked about my plans for the day. No awkward silence.

If someone gives you an initial bad impression, don't back away. Try to accept that person and even like him/her. Who knows, you may find out attributes you admire that you have been finding for a long time.

At Pizza Hut yesterday, I thanked every service staff who served me, and noticed an interesting observation.

One lady seemed hesitant, even surprised by my simple gesture. She then looked at me in the eye and smiled. Why, it suddenly dawned on me that most service staff at F&B outlets may not have looked at their customers. And the same may be said of the opposite parties.

I don't think we are any superior than them just because we are lying on some comfortable plush leather armchairs, and they have to serve us at our request. We are all human beings and if we don't care for each other, who else will?
