Christmas givings

Christmas is a time for forgiving and forgetting. I think I will make forgetting a huge part.

Hurt Emotions Part 9: Finale
yup, forgetting is a very good way to end this.

Friday 13 Feb 2009

All the scolding is really taking a toll on me. When I play Runescape/ Neoquest 1/ Neoquest 2, I need to take down the experience points. Then, at the end of the hour, I will calculate how much experience points I got. Is my self-esteem that low?

In class, just because a teacher missed out my name when reading out the full marks list, I ended up feeling so sour about it, that I actually confronted that teacher. Am I really having a problem here? Sorry to that teacher.

O Levels is coming. Now, I don’t feel like studying, but there’s a lot to do! Teachers can easily ask us to stay back after school, but we can’t stay up till midnight! It’s bad for my health!

Well, now I know why my sister is always angry at me. She throws her frustration and stress at me in anything I do. Even if I do it correctly, she will talk about the past experiences that I did wrongly. In the end, she’ll scold me no matter what. And she is so unaware about it! She just can’t take stress at all!

Overview of Holidays

I thought of just playing for one day, but then there was so many urgent matters that I ended up playing for the whole weekend and now, I ready to sacrifice all my time for my work.

A lot of things need to be done this Holiday which I hope I can finish at least half, as I always have problems doing what I set myself to be. A timetable just alleviates the sense of doom.

Let's start by Websites and Organisations. Firstly, on the FaceBook Fan Page on Y.E.S. 93.3 popcharts, I have decided to hire about 4 people to help me out in the various departments. The Melvus Hideout seems to be getting its share of spotlight this time, as my associate is working on a game guide and I should be coming out with another, but there is The Miller Brothers to be completed as well. In Neopets, I really need to do up my 3-storey dream home (Classic Neohome).

I also need to stardardise all contacts in Facebook, MSN and Gmail. Of course, this widespread cleanup means deleting of friends whom I don't think they should be or people who randomly choose to be friends with me. Cruel? Then welcome to the world, man.

Of all the tasks that needs to be done, this is the most time-consuming yet pleasurable. My learning of the songs. I just have an intense desire to learn all the songs (even the old ones). 200 songs! But this will be only available when no one is at home to listen to my demo. Not that it's bad, but it's pretty self-conscious and distracting, especially with my type of family.

That reminds me of the most important event. I shall type out my diary. (Goodness knows when will it be completed as my typing speed is so slow plus, I had to edit them, making sure it is suitable for online usage.) Definitely, I will include problems of my family, which is quite the reason I set up this blog. Inspirations and lessons to be learnt will be aplenty. Singapore OK or Not will also be back with a new episode or two. But at this point of writing, I will not exclude names. Moreover, I'm sure this blog will only be for you to read it and not others who know me, so I can really shout out loud. Then again, I also hope you can give me some advice or words of encouragement and tell me there is really someone out in the world who care about me existence. My Deepest Feelings (深心感触) already sums up my frustrations about my social life and will continue. I hope Hurt Feelings will stop as now, I'm trying to forget the cause. As next year looms closer, the conviction that I will smash this psychological barrier becomes stronger than ever.

Stay tuned for these captivating programmes. (longest post-let's celebrate!)

When everything was well,

Things start to go worse. Now my father just got retrenched. We don't really want him to find another job as it would just be the cycle of being kicked out again It has been going on for 4 years now already. Actually, I should be happy. This lasted for 3 years. Also good lah this time. He didn't even teach the new people anything, but although I should be on my father's side, I do not want to make a stand here, as I'm not closely involved. Nevertheless, I would want to highlight that people should stop being so competitive as they would be upset when the results are not in their favour.

I helped 2 failures get their Distinctions. Both are people whom I care about. I don't really feel sad, unless in that case of Chinese O level, I still feel sore. I think that a real 'Thank You' celebration could be done to make me feel appreciated, and they do not fully claim the credit would make me feel better. Therefore, the person who really touched my heart today, I say 'Thank You'. It's the people like you that make me continue to have the drive and perseverance to help others. Although Singapore is practical, my teacher disagrees, saying character counts. Well, I just hope that God will bless me, and the world will be a better place.

At a loss of space to stand

So stupid... Got headache again. Study until sleep then wake up so giddy. [ uuuh.] Managed to get online. Hope it can cure my sickness. Seems to be getting more giddy spells more and more often. Lucky tmr no school, but then now, I'm wasting time to study.

Sorry!] I'm really at a loss of what to do.

Singapore OK... or Not? Episode 5: No Drinking of PLAIN water in MRT!

Welcome to the another episode of Singapore OK... or Not? Today, we will discuss about the newest rule imposed on us by the authorities.

Singapore is getting more and more unreasonable. We all know how Singapore is a fine country and it just keeps getting finer. The latest addition is the penalty of drinking plain, colourless, odourless, tasteless water. Or any other form of beverage for that matter. Although I think it’s ridiculous, the only reason I can think of why the authorities put up is this. Someone spilled a whole bottle of water. The water seeps in between the gaps and touches an electrical wiring and cause a fire or an explosion. But after all these years, would normal functional adult human beings tip over a bottle of water for fun, laughter, peace and joy? I highly doubt it.

Humans have this wonderful reflex action that when a whole bottle is spilled, he will wake up and stop any further “damage”. And the water will only be absorbed into his shirt. If the water touches the floor, even by dripping, then call me there to see it. The worst thing to come out of it is humiliation of the poor victim.

Babies deprived of milk and other adverse effects are easily raised by other members of the public. The objective of this post is to show how spilling a bottle of water will not have any dangerous consequence on the carriage, commuters or otherwise.

That's my take on this. What's yours? Send in your thoughts as comments in the box below or click on the link! Thank you for reading and stay tuned for the next episode.

National Day Song 2009

"What Do You See" (就在这里) National Day Song this year is a disaster! I thought last year's was worse enough. The MV was also too unrealistic. The song has no energy and furthermore, it's sung by a male singer. (no varying pitches=boring) Let's just predict how worse could next year's be. Either way, support it by at least watching the first 30s of the MV. I'm trying to find the Chinese Version which I hope will be better, even if the Chinese version is unofficial and funny. At least it's funny.

H1N1 Spread

School reopens in a few days. Perhaps people have overlooked the most important and frequently used transport system - buses and trains. Let me play out a scenario in the bus.

This person goes into the bus. Because he doesn't know that he has the virus (only 44% of cases have fever), hence he spreads it around. Because the physical conditions in the bus makes the virus thrive even better, for students who sit in the bus for 1 hour will be the most likely victim. Why? They spend hours playing computer, and don't go exercising , hence their immunity is low. The carrier will just spread to his school and family members and viola! The whole world is dead.

In the train, it's more packed, but the duration spent there is greatly reduced. Australians do not feel the high rush of panic, because they are more spread out (2.84/km2)unlike Singapore whose 6,814/km2. We were ranked third in the world.

Now, in a crowded place, why do some people get the disease and some don't? I think it boils down to how strong your immue system is. Now I'm not saying that you should go and buy and drink tonics or hit the gym 4 hours a day. I don't think there is any direct relation in that. I have a friend who runs about 3 km easily everyday, but he's always down with colds and coughs.

I'm also at a loss of what to do, but I do keep us with my exercising routine and keep calm, because the power of the brain is humongous. It's like will power and this is not a miricle. This is proven.

You should also do the necessary precautions to protect yourself. Go out in a mask if you have to.

Be healthy and be well
Until next time
Angus

New teachers, Split classes

Mrs Foo suspicion for split classes are on the dot. Both Chemistry and Physics will be split. Ms Gloria Boey will be taking over a few of you as will Mr Koh Chee Kiang. The latter is an expert teacher with many years of teaching and you will definitely get what he's talking about no doubt.

*looks around* Ms Boey is very nice. Very good. Yep. Very nice time. *looks around*

Okay, so with the new addition, expect to see more drama! *drama?*

Do this NOW! before you forget

As you have read in the news, there will still be school for Victoria School. (DO your hw.) Please note the following from Mr Ron Tan.

  1. Go to VS Website and download TRAVEL DECLARATION FORM. Get it signed, even if you didn't go overseas. You need the form to enter school on Monday.

  2. Bring your thermometer on Monday. If not, you have to pay $10 to buy a new one in school.

  3. Just don't come to school and go to a doctor if you are feeling unwell on Monday. Even if you haven't travelled overseas!

  4. Please ensure that you have self-quarantined for 7 days before coming back to school if you have returned to Singapore only on/after the 22nd June from an affected area. Contact your FT/AFT if you need to take leave of absence from school. If you are feeling unwell (even if you have no fever), go see a doctor and do NOT report to school on Monday. Everyone must practise social responsibility!

  5. While you are at the VS Website, get your timetable!

I've added the links to it. Please pass on the message to everyone even from other classes, your juniors. I would like to clarify something. In the "Notes to Parents" under Paragraph 5, it says "required to re-submit the travel deeclaration form, attached together with this letter, when school re-opens." The correct thing is you only need to submit the form. Leave the "Notes to Parents" online.

 Do NOW!

Extra School holiday

Update: It's not confirmed. I've emailed the teachers and as of now, the answer is "No".

Ernest Lim said on Facebook "HURRAY SCHOOL IS CLOSED FOR 1 WEEK!!!" According to him his AFT told him, which will be Ms Ho Seok Lay, which will be credible. Anyway, if that is so, you'll have no excuse to not finish your hw, and I'm open to another week of help for anyone who needs it. There is one bad news though. Our Critical Enquiry Wksp is on that first week. There is also the torch relay, so I think S4's will still attend school. I'll confirm with the teachers, so please stay tuned to where ever you are reading this. On the blogspot or my Notes in Facebook.

Handicapped but not Disabled

I saw a wheelchair bound person. He was singing very beautifully. I went to donate some money to him like many others. I would like to highlight his strong spirit of resiliency. Even though he is disabled, he does not rely on others for his day to day needs. This is the kind of people whom you should cheer them on, rather than those who are able-bodied begging people to buy tissues.

Singapore OK... or Not? Episode 4: Singapore Kindness Week

Welcome to the yet another episode of Singapore OK... or Not? Today, we will just sit down and talk about the event that's starting on 5 April 2009.

It's the Singapore Kindness Movement Week! Look no further for more information. In lieu of that, TODAY has published another article titled "Gracious, really? 90 per cent of Singaporeans think so". Indeed, it surprised me when I saw the statistics provided. They are categorized into four groups. But I'm not going to mention all of them. All of them are on what habits Singaporeans found most annoying.

In Public
Firstly, we have the "in public" category. Apparently, 93% and 76% voted for "Not clearing plates" and "'Chope-ing' seats" respectively. The good news is I don't see much of these problems now, thanks to the cleaners and the better attitude Singaporeans have now.

On Public Transport
Secondly, "On Public Transport", 3/4 of us don't like others not making way for people to alight, board. I find that quite hard to avoid. This arises during the peak hours when commuter load is high. After all these years of complaints, nobody did anything, leading to the frequent jamming on buses' aisles. When the two transport companies refuse to increase the frequency of the bus, how can we avoid this?

A little less than 7 out of ten people find people not keeping to the left of escalators annoying. What most teenagers do now is they hang out in groups. And when they do, they definitely stand next to each other on escalators and talk. This is a problem which I don't think will be rectified in the near future.

The last thing I would like to mention is that quite a large number of people dislike the idea of people talking and playing music loudly. For those who plays music loudly, here's a piece of information for you. If the noise level is so high that the person who sits beside you on the bus can hear it, you're in trouble. Research shows that that if you are doing that all the time, you will be deaf 30 years before normal people do. Shocked? I don't know how they got the number, but if you just think about it, maybe it's not so hard to imagine it after all. Perhaps the next time, you want to blast some music, be more gracious - someone may need that period of rest after a long day.

We have come to the end of another episode of Singapore OK... or Not? As usual, you can send in your thoughts as comments in the box below or click on the link! Thank you for reading and stay tuned for the next episode.

Singapore OK... or Not? Episode 3 : Compassion

Welcome to the another episode of Singapore OK... or Not? I would like to take this opportunity to clarify that this series explores some of the not-so-nice attitudes that Singaporeans have that make Singapore an unpleasant place to live in from time to time. It does not involve news items. Those reflections will not have this heading. Anyway, I got the inspiration of this post by talking to my friend. This is a very important and common thing, so why didn't I come to the realization earlier?

I will give you one example. When I see my friend on the road now, they just pretend to miss me when I actually responded. Is this going to be a heartless society where no one cares about each other any more? I encourage all of you to acknowledge the people around you, even if you are in a conversation, a smile, nod would be more than enough to warm another's soul. Compassion is no longer a thing of helping others when in need or donate money. It is a broad term.

We have come to the end of another episode of Singapore OK... or Not? As usual, you can send in your thoughts as comments in the box below or click on the link! Although this a short episode, I hope you still bring home a valuable lesson. Thank you for reading and stay tuned for the next episode.

Transport Fares Revision

In today's Today paper, you would probably have read the front page about the revision in transport fares. Some people think it's not enough. I'm included.

Just 7 years ago, the price of bus fare for the lowest fare stage is 10 cents lower than the present 71 cents. You can click here for the reference. What I'm not happy is that they increase and increase, amounting to quite a significant amount then they opened the tap and let a drip of water out.

It's like your electricity rates. It increased until it was 30+ cents for every kilowatt used. Now, as everyone complained and if they do not go down, everyone will be upset with the ruling system over Singapore. But I assure you, it will make its comeback and rise to an even more expensive rate then ever and will continue rising.

Singapore OK... or Not? Episode 2 : Common Sense and a news item squeezed in

Happy Valentine’s Day!

To bring more cheer today, I am going to touch on this topic in the next episode of Singapore OK... or Not? Then to round up the day, I have 2 more news items that you should take note of. With so many things planned ahead for you, what are you waiting for? Get reading!

Welcome to the another episode of Singapore OK... or Not? Have you heard that the more learned a person is the less common sense he has? This is especially true in today’s society. Never mind the good manners that you should display, it's common sense we are talking about today.

There are many examples in real life. You only need to be critical and observant to your surroundings. Take my bus trip last week for example, it was very crowded. And there was this small child (studying in a primary school) that was trying to tap his Ez-Link card on the reader. The card was conveniently hung around his neck. The point is, he is quite a distance from the reader as he just came abroad. I was trying to help to "unwind" the string from his neck, when he pushed his small body forward and managed to tap his card. In the process, my heart was in pain seeing him, as he had to stretch that elastic band of "rubber band" until it made some red markings around the back of his neck.

If you think that a child has an excuse for having no common sense, read this. The day after on my way home, I took a very crowded lift. Fortunately, I was at the back of the lift. When the lift stopped at one particular storey, one "bulky" man in front of me tried to get out. But the people near the door refused to give way: no matter how much they squeezed themselves, they just could not generate enough space for the man to pass. I was crying out ion desperation! Why not the few of them walk out of the lift, and when that man was out of the lift, those people just reenter the lift again! I mean, what's so difficult, in doing that? If they are afraid that the door might close before they reenter, all they need to do is to press the button outside or wait for the next one!

I feel that if everyone just think about what's happening around them, this Valentine's Day will be of more smiles. We have come to the end of another episode of Singapore OK... or Not? As usual, you can send in your thoughts as comments in the box below or click on the link! Thank you for reading and stay tuned for the next episode, as it may pop up anytime.

The first news item for you to take note of is that Deepavali will be moved from Nov 15 (Sunday) to Oct 17 (Saturday). For everyone, the public holiday on Nov 16 will be cancelled. Some schools may let their students off on the following Monday (Oct 19) while working adults, lose a holiday. It makes this year's public holidays very much lower that last year's (11 as to 8, I think).

Secondly, for those males who did not get a silver in the year before being enlisted in National Service, you now need to spend 8 weeks, not 4 extra weeks in Army. So I recommend you start training now. This takes effect for the December enrolment this year, if I'm not wrong. There is still time and it is attainable if you start now and do it consistently. Check this webpage for more the scorechart to help you plan a programme.

Budget 2009

Today, I shall spend some time discussing about the budget for this year. After collating most of what I see including the TODAY newspaper and today's news at 6.30pm on Channel 8, I will make a conclusion in the worst possible scenario.

From that particular TODAY newspaper, it implies that having the offsets is better than a reduction in GST (Goods and Services Tax). But any learned person can easily say that your (the Government's) offsets is only one-time, but the GST is implemented forever. Hence it is very easy for them to "recoup" their "losses".

The news on television stated that the reserves will be replenished. By what way, I ask myself. GST, of course! It's already a well-known fact that the government plans to increase the GST to 10% in 2012. Well, all their money can be easily gotten back.

Don't you think so? Comment on this!

Happy New Years!

I would just like to take this opportunity to wish you happy new year for the one that has just passed and the one that is coming. Also, I would to thank you all for your support towards NeoCrase and this blog. I now receive about 300 vists monthly! This means a lot to me. I will improve (like the changes made to NeoCrase after the shift to Google Sites) the site even more.

An update here, which once again you may have noticed, is that there is a hit counter here as well.

When I was younger, I was quite confused why we have 2 "new years". The problem doesn't alleviate especially when all my aunties and uncles say happy new year on both days. See, there will be a celebration on these two (out of the many) special holidays (which I don't find it so special at all. I wish I could spend the holiday doing what I like. After all, that's the meaning of 'holiday', right?) , and they will start the hand shaking "ceremony" with everyone present, while chanting those three words again and again. Then it dawned on me. But I would prefer on the Lunar New Year that their wishes be in Mandarin. That would help.

Behind the Scenes and a bit of me revealed

What actually goes on behind these posts? In this seventh post, I shall disclose it.

I usually set aside a part of my day to read newspapers. When I see interesting news, things that you, my readers should know, or when I have a view on a particular issue, I will start planning and researching into that topic.

Usually, most of my material is wrong, hence it never makes it up here. Just take the last post for example, I actually have 3 topics in mind. After the research, I found many variations, that I don't know which is true. Another problem is that usually, my point of view is not strong enough. Thus I end up with the two topics as you see below. The two reasons bring down my success rate of making it online to about 40%.

I hope with more practices, I can become better.

Today, is also quite a good day. There is this physical test that I must do every year. I've been training since last year, in fear that I will fail this year's due to the inclusion of a new test - chin-ups. Actual fact, I can't do one. Hard work pays off, about one year on, I can do 1 and a half. I think it calls for a celebration. Of course, it definitely needs to improve and I would like to thank my friends for encouraging me for the past year and doing it with me.

Also, I'm also training for abs, aiming for 6 now. Though some people will feel that it's show-off, it's hard to put my thoughts down on pen and paper. Maybe I really need the confidence? This year, one of my new year resolutions, being stronger, has more or less been achieved. Yeah!

New Ez-Link Card and New Library Policy

Hi, it's me again. But before we go into our discussion today, let me first introduce my new slogan for this blog: Highlighting interesting news and more! I believe that I will put up more current affairs and local news so that your mind is provoked to think and you may find out something new or bring home something useful. This is also a platform for my other “services” which I provide. The slogan is located in the header.

Another change is that from now on, the topic of the post will be reflected in the title of the corresponding post.

The first topic for today will be the new Ez-Link card. You can now change your old card for the new at Transitlink offices, from what I gather on today's My Paper. The accompanying figure is the new rules and instructions on how to use it.

I am an avid reader and will usually spend my free time in the library or in Borders or anywhere where I found a book to read. So when I can find a book in the library which I can't finish by the 3-week loan period, I have to return it and lose any hope of finding it again. Last time, you can "renew" for free by holding on to the books that you are returning, but now, you have to drop it into a bookdrop and it "disappears". Imagine my surprise when I read in today's Today newspaper writes that the library "will remove the 50 cents renewal fee". Now I'll be able to finish that book for sure no matter how busy I am.

The policy also states that patrons with unpaid fines can't borrow any materials. But sometimes, people like me experience a problem whereby the loan record is not deleted though it went through the bookdrop. But the NLB spokesperson assured that books will be double checked.

My advice is once you come into the library, return them first, then check. If it didn't cross out where it should have, go and find some books and wait about 5 minutes. (10 should be more than enough) Then Check at the eKiosk again. If it's still there, complain inform the person behind the customer service table and they should be able to solve the problem.
